Dissociative Identity Disorder

process
Each one of us could hardly imagine what it is like to be different, to be a ‘psycho’. And it is so much easier for people to just isolate those with mental health problems from the society than try to get along with them - we cannot even consider letting them live normally amongst us. Therefore, I tried to make my piece as much visually expressive as possible to make everyone who wears it feel isolated, lonely, psychotic and unwelcome. I spent a lot of time thinking of how to recreate feelings of the person with ‘DID’ and came up with idea of restriction of movements, “to be locked up” and “to be trapped” can both be related to the idea of your alter ego locking you up inside your body, and to the idea that the “normal people” are locking up the “different people” in order to restrict their interaction with the rest of the world, because they are not normal. I simplified the basic straitjacket and created my own with only belts that keep the person tight without any opportunity to get out. To represent my particularly chosen disease I made a face out of silicone and put it directly on my ‘jacket’, so you have a feeling like someone is trying to get out of the body and pushes the skin from the inside.
